About The Artist

Lorraine THIRIA was born in Paris, France, and for twenty years, she was a lawyer specialized in the rights of women and children, before she decided to dedicate all her time to painting, photography and writing. She was trained in painting at the Versailles school of mural art and in plastic arts at Ecole Boulle, in Paris, France, and she created her own business as a painter. For her customers, she makes textured and living walls – unique and original creations out of pigments, sands, plasters and oxidized surfaces. As a painter, she is used to observing, taking, keeping and using many photographs of walls, which are inseparable from her pictorial work but which also retrace experiences of inner or far-away travels, and embody impressions that endlessly enrich and renew her creative universe.

She sees herself as an adventuress of the sensory world trying to translate and transcribe her emotions into photographic pictures, attempting to catch the language of walls, and to inhabit their colourful memories and whispers. Over the last six years, her photographic approach has freed itself from her pictorial work and has become more asserted – a truly autonomous creation. Indeed, the pictorial filter always accompanies (and even precedes) her photographic gaze which never ceases to deconstruct reality in order to capture its abstraction. She was selected to participate to the autumn photography Festival of Aix-en-Provence (Phot’Aix), France, which was held in November 2021 where her work was exhibited in Espace 361 gallery. Then she had a solo exhibition in February 2022 in Paris in the Charlot gallery and presented her series: « Abstraction attraction ». Her exhibition : « A singular vision » in Busan, South Korea, at the Art Space of the GoEun Museum of Photography was held in March 2022. Two of her photographs were acquired in April 2022 by the Goeun Museum of Photography to join their permanent collection. She exhibited in April 2023 in Paris in collaboration with her daughter Sarah RINGRAVE a double photographic series entitled "Mater Memoriae" evoking the body and memories, creating a singular vision of the material that binds and connects them and that they sublimate to make it a living sculpture, inhabited, inscribed in their genes as much as in their eye. She was selected to take part in the French Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she exhibited her photographs in duo with photographer Nadirah Zakariya : "Anti-spectacular: the colours of time passing by" from June 1 to September 7, 2023. She was also selected to take part in the KG+/Kyotography festival in Kyoto, Japan, from April 13 to May 11, where she presented her series : « The light of walls » with French Institute of Kansai, and « The senses of time » with Kyoto Mandaracha. Her last exhibition : « Emotional abstractions » in the Romain Rolland Gallery, Alliance Française of Delhi, India, took place from July 4 to July 17, 2024.
